We are a Phase 3 specialty pharmaceutical company focused on advancing and commercializing innovative medical dermatology products. We are currently developing PEP005 (ingenol mebutate), or PEP005, which is a novel compound derived from Euphorbia peplus, or E. peplus, a rapidly growing, readily-available plant, commonly referred to as petty spurge or radium weed. The sap of E. peplus has a long history of traditional use for a variety of conditions, including the topical self-treatment of various skin disorders, such as skin cancer and pre-cancerous skin lesions. Peplin has extensive international patent coverage over its technologies.

LEO Pharma announced positive results for its two Phase 3 clinical trials for the use of PEP005 (ingenol mebutate) Gel to treat actinic (solar) keratoses (AK) on head treatment areas, which include the face and scalp. The REGION-IIa and REGION-IIb each achieved their primary and secondary efficacy endpoints with statistically significant clearance of AK lesions vs. vehicle.

Peplin has completed its merger with LEO Pharma after obtaining the approval of the majority of Peplin stockholders. The deal was originally announced on 3 September, 2009 when LEO, a privately-held, leading global pharmaceutical company within Dermatology and Critical Care, agreed to acquire all outstanding securities of Peplin for approximately US$287.5 million in cash. Peplin will operate as a US-based LEO subsidiary with George Mahaffey as the Chief Executive Officer.
Peplin announced positive results for PEP005 (ingenol mebutate) Gel in REGION-I, its Australian and US based Phase 3 solar keratosis clinical trial for the treatment of lesions on non-head locations. REGION-I met its primary and secondary efficacy endpoints with statistically significant clearance of AK lesions vs. vehicle. PEP005 Gel is the first topical treatment to demonstrate a statistically significant benefit over vehicle across non-head anatomical locations, including back of hand with the median reduction in overall lesion count equal to 66.7%. The 2nd Phase 3 non-head trial, REGION-Ib, completed enrollment in August 2009.
